Children can have cancer. Metro Manila cancer registry records in three hospitals, show that eight kids/one very 3 hours, die everyday. Many more cases and deaths remain unreported Childhood cancer strikes randomly, unexpectedly, regularly, sparing no age group, socioeconomic status, ethnic group or geographic region. Children as young as a few months, barely able to talk and walk, can already have cancer Children can survive cancer, with early diagnosis and prompt, adequate treatment. In developed countries, childhood cancer survival rate is as high as 95%. In the Philippines, sadly, it is only 10to 30%. Of ten who are diagnosed, only two/three will most likely survive. They die because they are poor, unable to afford the high costs of medication and treatment It is a CALL TO ACTION:  Work Together to help neighbors, classmates, and colleagues whose lives may be burdened by childhood cancer Working together we can help them FACE and BEAT Cancer. We can give them the greatest gift of all --- a chance to live fully --to have a future So please, GET INVOLVED. In the spirit of WE RUN, Nike will launch the Run Buddy Run Nike+ Challenge to celebrate the motivational aspect of running with a buddy! Running has long been referred to as a personal endeavour, but despite the individual nature of the sport, running is an intensely communal pursuit too. The Run Buddy Run Nike+ Challenge takes on the idea of run clubs, training groups and community to broaden the appeal of physical running into the virtual world. Driven through Nike Running Philippines Facebook page and the Nike+ platform, the challenge will see pairs of run buddies race it out to win a VIP Race Day Experience at the We Run Manila 10K, and other Nike prizes.

UP Pep Squad Bags Samsung Cheerdance Competition 2011 Championship

Once again,the University of the Philippines Pep Squad defended their  University Athletic Association of the Philippines  (UAAP) Cheerdance Competition crown during the Samsung Cheerdance Competition 2011 held today at the Araneta Coliseum. It was a back to back championship as the UP Pep Squad had also won last year, giving them their 7th crown in the UAAP Cheerdance Competition. The Madonna inspired(blonde hair and songs as background music)UP Pep Squad performed with flawless energy, creative stunts, awesome costumes,and solid single unit movement. The Stunner,..the Stunts,..the Cheerdance..It's a 3 out of 3 full sweep for the UP PEP Squad.The competition was aired live via Studio 23.

Quick Facts:

Shamcey Gurrea Supsup, a native of General Santos City,( also the hometown of Manny Pacquiao) was born on May 16, 1986. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of the Philippines-Dilimanwith a degree in architecture where she also topped the June 2010 Architecture Licensure Examination in July 2010. She was crowned Bb. Pilipinas-Universe on April 10, 2011 through the 2011 Binibining Pilipinas pageant and took over the crown from the 2010 winner and Miss Universe 2010 4th runner-up Venus Raj.




During the question-and-answer portion judge Vivica A. Fox asked Supsup, "Would you change your religious beliefs to marry the person you love? Why or why not?"


Miss Philippines Shamcey Supsup answered, "If I had to change my religious beliefs, I would not marry the person that I love because the first person I love is God, who created me. I have my faith and my principles, and this is what makes me who I am. And if that person loves me, he should love my God, too."







Questions concerning religion is very sensitive. Definitely no answer is right or wrong in this case as long as one can feel the sincerity of the contestant's answer. I believe she did speak and did articulate her beliefs and ideas very well to the world.Another thing to be proud of is that Miss Philippines is an EXCEPTION..the only one without an interpreter among the top 5! I guess the only word that was lacking on her answer was the word "RESPECT" because all of the top 3 contestants applied it in their answers. For some, it will not be easy to make someone to love his or her God or to follow his or her belief so what bridges the gap there is one's respect for your love- being loved for who you are, same goes for one's culture and beliefs. But still, she did her best.

What's perfect with her answer is that she did glorify God in the universe and with that, NO CROWN CAN MATCH THAT!


"Miss Universe is supposed to be about more than just looks, and hopefully, these women will be judged on their other qualities, such as intelligence, poise, manners and culture, themselves out-of-date markers of a woman's worth, but certainly more important than beauty alone"(International Business Times, 2011).
